Disaster Loans Extended to Non-Farm Businesses

We’ve heard a lot about how the government is helping farmers get by during this disastrous period of drought; but now, non-farm businesses in 105 Missouri counties, including Audrain, are eligible for low interest federal disaster loans from the U.S. Small Business Administration.

SBA officials announced on Tuesday small non-farm businesses, agricultural cooperatives, businesses, and nonprofit organizations may qualify for Economic Injury Disaster Loans of up to $2 million.

SBA spokesman Alex Contreras explains that in cities where the economy is primarily based on agriculture, when farmers hurt, so do the businesses.
