House Southeast of Mexico Extensively Damaged By Early Morning Fire

Little Dixie fire crews battle a house fire in the 13000 block of Route JJ early Wednesday morning. Little Dixie Fire Chief Ken Hoover says crews were called to the the Kerri Smith residence at about 1:30 Wednesday morning. Flames were showing when first crews arrived. Hoover says crews gained control of the fire shortly after arriving but it did extensive damage to the home. No one in the home was injured, but one firefighter was slightly hurt when the second floor he was on collapsed onto the ground level of the home after the fire was put out. Hoover says he was treated and released from an area hospital. Investigation showed the fire started in a downstairs bedroom but no cause has been found yet. Crews from all three Little Dixie stations and Martinsburg were on the scene. Also, the American Red Cross and Little Dixie Auxiliary were on hand to aid in keeping firefighters cool.
