A court date has been set for two cases against a Mexico lawyer.
James Clampitt is scheduled to appear in Chariton County Circuit Court on August 9th in a hearing related to stealing and credit card fraud charges. Clampitt is accused of illegally using his former firm’s credit card to set up his own practice. He has pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Clampitt argues that he used the business card from the law firm of Brett, Erdel, Clampitt, and Owings, but it was in his name, associated with his social security number.
A hearing will be held the same day for Clampitt’s involuntary manslaughter case. He allegedly killed Richard Cobb in a 2010 hit-and-run accident.
Both cases were moved to Chariton County from Audrain on a change of venue.
