Prisoner On The Way To Vandalia Prison Involved in Cooper County Escape Attempt

A prisoner on the way to the Vandalia Prison for Women is involved in an attempted escape with two other prisoners in Cooper County Thursday morning. Missouri Highway Patrol officials say 44-year-old Ronald W. Greer overpowered a Pettis County deputy while he and two other prisoners were being taken to prisons in Fulton and Vandalia at a rest stop in Cooper County at about 6:55 Thursday morning. Greer then stole the patrol vehicle with the two other prisoners in the back. Boonville police found the car and began a chase and seven other agencies joined in. Greer wrecked the vehicle in a field north of near Highway K and Highway 87 in Howard County. Greer took off on foot and was captured a couple of hours later after being spotted by a highway patrol plane. The other two prisoners were recaptured while still in the back of the patrol vehicle. The Pettis County deputy who Greer overpowered was treated and released from an area hospital for minor injuries.
