A small fire this morning involving materials inside the old Audrain County Jail at the intersection of South Clark Street and West Promenade is put out before too much damage can be done. Mexico fire crews were called to the old jail just after 11:00 Friday morning for a report of black smoke coming from the building. Arriving crews found the fire in a pile of items inside an old jail cell on fire and they were put out. The items were removed from the building. Investigators found sparks from a cutting torch being used in a nearby jail cell had started the fire. Crews were on the scene about 30 minutes.
