Update: Worker Killed at Distribution Center

Local law enforcement officials are still investigating the circumstances surrounding a fatal accident at a Home Depot subsidiary’s distribution center in Mexico, Mo.

Public Safety Assistant Director Brice Mesko says 30-year-old Kenny Baker of Auxvasse was trying to repair a loading dock plate at Home Decorators a little after noon Tuesday when it fell on him.

“When Baker was found by fellow employees, several of them worked together to lift the dock plate, and they began CPR prior to emergency responders’ arrival,” Mesko told KXEO/KWWR News.

Baker was taken to Audrain Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

Mesko says there were safety mechanisms on the loading dock plate.

“That’s part of the investigation, to determine if they were used correctly and if they functioned properly,” he said.

Home Depot officials released a statement on Tuesday evening, saying they were “deeply saddened” by the accident. They declined to comment further, since the investigation is ongoing.

The Mexico facility was also involved in a settlement with OSHA over safety violations in 2011.
