MSHP Warns Drivers Of Deer In Roadway

The Missouri State Highway Patrol is warning drivers that deer are becoming more active and creating hazards on Missouri roadways.

The Patrol reports a traffic crash involving deer occur every 2.2 hours in the state. Last year 7 people died and 400 hundred were injured in these accidents.

Rural areas are not the only places a driver could hit a deer. Troopers remind drivers when a deer is spotted to slow down and proceed with caution. Deer often travel in groups so stay alert when seeing a single deer. Drivers can create a more serious accident by swerving to into another lane of traffic to avoid a deer collision.
