Company Withdraws Request For Medical Marijuana Dispensary In Mexico

A request to operate  a Medical Marijuana Dispensary in Mexico is being withdrawn.

A hearing for the variance was held by the Planning and Zoning Commission for a request from JAD Properties to allow a medical marijuana facility at 1015 East Liberty the old Commerce Bank Building.

The property was within 700 feet of a church and school which would have violated an ordinance passed by the city recently saying no such facility could be within 1000 feet of a church or school.

Community Development Director Rita Jackson says the city of Mexico heard about plenty of opposition leading up to this (Tuesday) morning’s hearing.

In a letter from JAD Properties they say they have chosen not to locate in Mexico.

The letter went on to say that the opinion of the company is that they feel they bring a very professional and viable industry to the area and would not want to operate in a community where a lack of reception to them was present.

Over 20 people attended the hearing at the Mexico City Hall after the letter from the company was read the meeting was adjourned.
