No injuries were reported after a grass fire in Mexico on Saturday, March 2, 2024.
Mexico Public Safety responded to the 1300 block of East Anderson and found that a resident had been burning sticks and yard waste, and the fire spread and began moving across the yard.
The fire was extinguished before any buildings were damaged.
Mexico Public Safety is reminding that in Mexico you can only openly burn yard waste and not trash or construction material.
Residents are also reminded that if you are burning yard waste, the fire must be attended and a water source must be available to keep it under control.
Mexico does have the brush yard which is open for all residents to use.
Additionally, when the National Weather Service issues a Red Flag warning, that means it is a dangerous time to openly burn anything.
That is based off many factors that increase the risk of fire spread, like wind, humidity, and moisture in the ground
