Several members of the nationally ranked Mexico High School Academic team met with Governor Mike Parson in Jefferson City on Wednesday, July 10, 2024.
Governor Parson met Mexico High Academic team members Ash Frederickson, Camden Williams, Dylan Reid, Lucy Gleeson, Andrew Peuster, and head coach Dale Schenewerk in his office at the Capitol.
Governor Parson recognized the team’s accomplishments in local, state and national quiz bowl competitions during the 2023-2024 academic year.
Team Overview:
- Season record of 157 – 12
- 116-game winning streak
- Took 2nd in State (Class 5) Placed 36th out of 72 teams at the 2024 PACE NSC (National tournament)
- 2nd best Small School Finish the season ranked #16 nationally per Grogerranks.com
- Camden Williams: Junior-Team Captain Was the top scorer in every tournament he played at (with Mexico)
- Set a single-season and single-tournament power record
- Placed 22nd at the NAQT Individual Player National Championship Tournament
- Was the top scorer at the PACE NSC (National Tournament) Led Missouri A (as captain) to its first NASAT title in 12 years.
- Was 2nd top scorer (finishing only behind Missouri B’s Yrwin Batan) at the 2024 IQBT NASAT
- Coach Dale Schenewerk: Took over the Mexico High School Quiz Bowl Program in the fall of 2012.
- The team consisted of 3 players in its first season.
- The program now has 19 players.
- Won 500th and 600th career wins as head coach this season (601 career wins)

- Ash Frederickson- graduated senior- played 3 years will attend Missouri S&T in Rolla next year
- Andrew Peuster- senior- first year with the team Carter Blackburn- senior- third year with the team Dylan Reid- senior, third year with the team Lucy Gleeson- senior, third year with the team
- Lastly, the team’s success is largely due to their tireless work ethic.
- They practice for an hour and a half after school every day (FIVE DAYS a week) from August to June… at their request.
- This spans the fall, winter, and spring sports seasons and even extends into summer break.
