The following press release was sent from Little Dixie Fire Protection District.
On 1/29/2025 while clearing a fire scene on Audrain Road 457 fire we received a dispatch to 22123 Audrain Road 9318 just north of Mexico off Highway 15 for a large metal and wood framed building fire.
Upon arrival found heavy smoke coming from the building along with heavy flames in the eastern half of the building.
The building was used for storage and small engine repair shop.
Due to the condition of the building as well as the debris around the building, entry had to be done by by cutting access through the metal siding and locked doors.
Initial fire was knocked down but due to the building contents hampering access through the interior and the fire already getting in the roof line the fire spread rapidly throughout the structure.
The fire originated when subjects were burning trash near the building which then spread to the building itself.
Due to the shortage of manpower, Mexico Public Safety Department was requested for mutual aid.
Mexico Public Safety Department responded with an engine and 13 personnel.
Little Dixie Fire Protection District responded initially with one engine, three tankers, recuse squad and six personnel.
A few more personnel responded as they got off work.
Audrain Ambulance District also responded to the scene.
They treated and released two firefighters at the scene with heat exhaustion.
Audrain Ambulance District Director Josh Lloyd also provided food for all personnel.
Little Dixie Fire Protection District would like to thank Mexico Public Safety Department and the Audrain Ambulance District for their assistance.
Crews cleared the scene around 5pm.
