If you were in downtown Mexico over the weekend, you may have noticed a different look. Mainstreet Mexico, a nonprofit with a vision of beautifying and developing downtown Mexico, began planting trees this weekend in the downtown area.
Mainstreet Mexico received a Community Empowerment Grant in 2023 from Missouri Main Street Connection.
Since then they’ve been planning and researching they type of trees that could be planted and not pose problems for area businesses and downtown shoppers.
They recently received a green light from the city to pursue the project.
Other beautification goals for the near future include new benches, planters and improvements to the Jefferson Street Mini-Park.
