Cold weather and a shortage of trained volunteers have kept Mexico’s only overnight homeless shelter closed this week.
The Room at the Inn can host sixteen people, but staffing shortages forced it to delay opening leaving those in need with nowhere to go as temperatures drop.
Executive Director Ra’vae Moore says volunteers are essential to keeping the shelter open, and a training session was held Wednesday to build that team.
Thanks to fundraising and community support, the shelter will officially open for the winter season next Wednesday, December 10th, at 5 p.m. this time with paid staff ready to help those who need it most.
