Two Columbia composers are being recognized in the 2026 Missouri Composers Project competition.
Hickman High School’s Director of Orchestras, Renan Reis Leme, won the Open Orchestral category for his piece Adagio y Fuga Porteña. (uh-DAH-jee-oh – ee – FOO-gah – por-TEH-nyah)
Rock Bridge junior Gilbert Gavin Slade Bach earned an honorable mention in the High School Orchestral division for Marcia Funebre.
They’re among eight composers statewide honored this year.
Their works will be performed and professionally recorded by the Columbia Civic Orchestra and Premiere Vocal Artists on March 8 at Broadway Christian Church.
The concert is free and open to the public.
Winners will also receive a $500 award from the Sinquefield Charitable Foundation.
