Columbia Man Sentenced to 10 Years for 2024 Bar Shooting Outside Jake’s Bar and Grill

In Columbia, a man will spend the next decade behind bars for a deadly 2024 shooting outside Jake’s Bar and Grill.

45-year-old Steven Shareil Jones was sentenced to 10 years in prison without parole after pleading guilty for a 2024 fatal shooting in Boone County.

Jones was also charged with unlawful possession of a firearm in connection with the case.

The victim, Brian Young of St. Louis, was found with a gunshot wound to the head outside Jake’s Bar and Grill in the Lakeview Mall complex on December 12, 2024.

The defense sought a 10-year term, arguing self-defense in a case where prosecutors asked for the maximum 15 years for a class B felony.

Investigators say Jones admitted to drawing and firing a pistol at Young.
