Rackers charged in Jeff City accident

A 59-year-old Jefferson City man sustained critical injuries in a two-vehicle accident Sunday afternoon in Jefferson City. The accident happened around 5:13 p.m. in the 100 block of East Dunklin Street.
According to a JCPD news release, a 1999 GMC Sonoma, driven by a 36-year-old Robert Rackers, Jr. of Mexico, was traveling westbound on East Dunklin Street, and the man, on an e-bike, was traveling eastbound. Rackers failed to yield while turning left and hit the e-bike.
The Jefferson City man was transported to a local hospital by emergency medical services, according to the news release. He was later transferred to a Columbia hospital in critical condition, according to court records.
Rackers sustained minor injuries, but he showed signs of impairment and was arrested on suspicion of aggravated driving while intoxicated.
Today, he was officially charged with DWI – Serious Physical Injury, Operating a Motor Vehicle in a Careless and Impudent Manor, and Operating a Motor Vehicle without Financial Responsibility.
The incident remains under criminal investigation by the Jefferson City Police Department’s traffic unit, according to the news release.
