Callaway County authorities say that their search for an armed man who ran away has been resolved and that there is no longer a threat to the public.
The sheriff’s office reportedly tried to pull Joseph Fennewald’s vehicle over at about 7:28 p.m. last night, but he fled. Fennewald, who often went by “Grant” eventually made it to a residence on Route E, running in and grabbing a shotgun before running into nearby woods.
Authorities surrounded the area, and later heard a single gunshot. Major Curtis Hall later confirmed that Fennewald died by suicide, and they suspect that he likely had mental health issues prior to the incident, and that any attempts to contact him by the Crisis Investigation team were unsuccessful.
Authorities found Fennewald’s body around 11:15 p.m. last night.
