The Mexico School District has approved its $32.4 million budget for the 2026-27 school year, with nearly 57 percent of spending going toward employee salaries.
Superintendent Dr. Troy Lentz says the district expects to end the current fiscal year with a smaller-than-expected deficit of about $800,000.
Despite healthy reserves, Lentz says ongoing state funding challenges mean the district will need to make careful financial decisions while avoiding staff cuts whenever possible.
The budget also keeps bond-funded construction projects on track for completion before the 2028-29 school year.
