Firefighters responded to a fire in southern Columbia on Wednesday night in the 2400 block of Northampthon Drive around 7:30 p.m.
Crews arrived within three minutes of dispatch to discovered flames coming from the back of a two-story building with a walk-out basement.
CFD was able to contain the fire using hoses and protect the connected residence. The occupants had already evacuated prior to emergency response, and flames were extinguished within six minutes.
The Columbia Fire Marshal investigated the incident and determined that the fire was caused by a propane grill on an outdoor balcony.
