Jefferson City firefighters quickly contained a house fire Thursday evening on Union Street.
Crews responded just before 6:40 p.m. to a home at 316 Union Street, where they found heavy smoke and flames coming from the residence.
Firefighters brought the fire under control in less than 20 minutes while searching the home to make sure no one was inside.
The home’s only occupant and a pet escaped safely before crews arrived, and no injuries were reported.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Jefferson City Fire Department and the Missouri State Fire Marshal’s Office.
