The Audrain County Sheriff’s Office is mourning the loss of a second K9 in as many days.
K9 Chal died Saturday after his health declined in recent weeks, just one day after K9 Apollo passed away following a battle with cancer.
Chal had served the department since 2017 and was certified in narcotics detection, tracking and apprehension.
The sheriff’s office called him the face of its K9 program, saying he took part in countless deployments and community demonstrations.
Both dogs spent years serving Audrain County alongside their handlers.
