A Jefferson City Correctional Center inmate already serving a 1,003-year prison sentence is now facing a first-degree murder charge.
A grand jury indicted 43-year-old Brandon Smith in connection with the June 4 death of fellow inmate Stanley Kenaga.
Smith is also charged with violence against an inmate and armed criminal action.
Court records do not include details of the alleged attack, but the indictment says Smith killed Kenaga inside the prison.
Smith is scheduled to be arraigned on July 30.
