A tractor and several hay bales caught fire Thursday morning in St. Thomas, prompting a response from the Cole County Fire Protection District.
Firefighters were called to the 14000 block of Loethen Lane, where crews found the tractor fully engulfed in flames.
With help from the homeowners, additional firefighters, and a neighbor, crews unrolled the burning hay bales to fully extinguish the fire.
Firefighters remained on scene for about two hours, using roughly 3,000 gallons of water.
The response included an engine, tanker, and brush truck, with the Cole County Sheriff’s Department also assisting.
