A former Cooper County court deputy has pleaded guilty in connection with the death of an inmate at the Cooper County Jail.
Rachel Atherton admitted to second-degree involuntary manslaughter on Monday. Instead of a prison sentence, a judge placed her on two years of probation.
Prosecutors say 33-year-old Brooklyn Bailey died in October 2023 after not receiving treatment for diabetes while in custody.
Atherton and former Lieutenant Robyn Pfeiffer were accused of failing to get Bailey medical care and telling others not to help.
Pfeiffer was sentenced earlier this year to three years in prison.
