Columbia firefighters quickly extinguished a residential structure fire yesterday morning that was believed to have been caused by a lightning strike. At 11:04 a.m., they were dispatched to the 2300 block of Bluff Creek Drive.
Crews arrived within three minutes to find smoke showing from a single-story home with a basement. Upon entering the structure, firefighters found the smoke was coming from a fire in the furnace area between the basement and first floor of the home.
The fire was quickly extinguished, and firefighters opened up the the structure to ventilate it and rid the home of smoke.
