Audit of Bellflower Fire Protection District to take place

Possible inappropriate purchases has spurred an audit of the Bellflower Fire Protection District.
The Missouri state auditors, at the request of the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, have announced the audit as of Friday.

Concerns about possible inappropriate purchases by the department and fuel cards being used to buy fuel for personal vehicles is going to be looked at, according to the state auditor’s release.

The audit will determine if taxpayer funds were misused by the district, located in Montgomery County.

An internal investigation identified several issues and determined the sheriff’s claims were credible.   “We appreciate the efforts of the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office and the work they did to investigate the issues with the Bellflower Fire Protection District and bring them to our attention,” Missouri Auditor Scott Fitzpatrick said in the release. “Our audit will now delve deeply into the operations of the district as we work to uncover any possible waste, fraud, or abuse.”
