A Columbia man faces child endangerment charges after authorities say a child shot off a part of their finger.
Boone County Deputies were called to University Hospital on Thursday for a report of someone with a gunshot wound and found the child, who lost part of their left index finger due to the injury.
29-year-old Dontay Palmer said that the child had been left alone with fireworks, but a search of his house revealed multiple firearms and no evidence a firework had been set off.
Prosecutors charged Palmer with First Degree Endangering Welfare of Child causing Serious Physical Injury.
He was being held in the Boone County Jail without bond.
