A Columbia man is facing an assault charge after police say he punched a security guard outside a downtown bar early Sunday morning.
Court documents say 34-year-old Dorice Smith was removed from The Basement on East Walnut Street after causing a disturbance.
Police say Smith later returned and punched a security guard in the face, causing the guard to lose consciousness and suffer serious head injuries.
Smith was charged Monday with first-degree assault.
Court records show Smith was recently released from the Missouri Department of Corrections after serving time for felony stealing and burglary convictions
