The Jefferson City Council has rejected a proposal that would have allowed Room at the Inn to move into a larger facility at 107 Adams Street.
After several hours of public comment Monday night, the council voted 6-3 against the rezoning request, with one member abstaining.
Supporters said the new facility would expand homeless services, increasing overnight capacity from 20 to 30 people while also providing daytime resources.
Opponents and supporters debated whether the Adams Street location was appropriate.
Room at the Inn says it will continue looking for a new location after the proposal was rejected.
