A Boone County murder trial is underway in the case of a man accused of killing his father in 2025.
Prosecutors say 33-year-old Dalton Perkins grabbed a gun during an argument at the family’s home near Sturgeon and shot his father, 56-year-old Stephen Perkins, several times.
But Perkins’ attorney says the shooting was self-defense, arguing his father choked him during a scuffle and that he feared for his life.
Perkins faces charges including second-degree murder, domestic assault, unlawful use of a weapon and armed criminal action.
The trial is expected to continue Thursday, with a verdict possible by the end of the week.
