Two Central Methodist University football players are facing assault charges following an alleged fight involving a teammate.
Twenty-year-old Kamarrion Ferguson and 22-year-old Michael Hourel were charged with third-degree assault Monday, according to court documents.
Police say the fight evolved from a team rule made by the team captain, requiring players who arrive late to practice to fight another teammate as punishment.
The university says four additional players have also been suspended in connection with the incident, bringing the total number of players facing disciplinary action to six.
The two arrests bring the incident into the criminal justice system, while the university is also taking action involving its football program.
