The students and staff at McMillan Elementary said goodbye to an era Thursday during their Celebration of Success.
This year is the last time McMillan will hold Kindergarten through fifth grade children.
The change is due to a district-wide elementary reconfiguration.
A time capsule was buried on the playground that contains pictures taken by local photographer Eric Mattson of all the classes, as well a a memory book that was also given to each student. The time capsule also contains a map of Mexico and a map of McMillan School.
Principal Rebecca Moppin spoke at the ceremony and said the time capsule will be retrieved in 2044.
A key to the locked and sealed box and a map will be sent to Mexico Public Schools Central Office.
