A Vandalia man involved in a crash in Columbia on May 16 has died from his injuries.
Eighty six year old William McDowell died yesterday [Thursday] after the crash at the 124 mile marker of Interstate 70.
Police say it happened when McDowell was in the merging lane from the Stadium/I-70 on-ramp and attempted to use the cross-median emergency U-turn by crossing both the driving and passing lanes.
Another vehicle collided with McDowell’s vehicle, causing it to spin and collide with a freight liner.
It is not believed that alcohol or drugs were a factor in the accident.
