Current Mexico City Councilwoman and former Mayor Dr. Ayanna Shivers is now a candidate for the Missouri Senate after filing for office today (Tuesday).
Dr. Shivers is a candidate for District 18 which includes Adair, Audrain, Clark, Knox, Lewis, Macon, Marion, Monroe, Putnam, Ralls, Randolph, Scotland, Schuyler and Shelby Counties in northeast Missouri.
Dr. Shivers says her platform includes supporting public education and educators, rural health initiatives and hospitals, independent family farms and rural communities and maintaining local control for municipalities on issues that directly affect their community.
She is the president of the Central Missouri Municipal League, is employed at Lincoln University, and is active in ministry.
