The Community Health Ministry Team held a tremendously successful back to school health fair last weekend. Over 525 children received school supplies, up 55 from last year’s event. Over the 13 year history of this event, over 4600 kids have received school supplies at no cost.
The Audrain County Health Department was there and provided back packs to the children. CHMT members handed out grade appropriate school supplies. Again this year, the “Shoes for the Heart” group provided instructions on how kids could receive a new pair of tennis shoes after the school year opens.
Over 60 community volunteers helped to make this event a success. Local sponsors include: Audrain County Health Department, Mexico United Methodist Church, Healthy Blue, Coil Construction, Shoes from the Heart, KXEO/KWWR Radio, The Mexico Ledger, and Mexico Public Safety.
Hallsville also reports great success, providing school and hygiene products to over 400 children in a drive-through format, sponsored by the Hallsville Inter-Church Council.
