Callaway County is set to open a larger jail in Fulton at the end of October. Capacity will increase from 90 inmates to 152. Portions of the current jail will be repurposed as office space and a 911 facility.
The new location will use x-ray technology for inmate check in and inmates will have access to video calls. There will also be a new central control center at the jail allowing staff members to keep their eyes on inmates electronically and have the ability to remotely open or close any door in the facility.
Approximately 12 new jobs will be created for staff and corrections officers. Callaway County voters approved a bond issue for $30 million in improvements in 2019.
