A new school calendar for the 2023-24 year is now approved by the Mexico Board of Education.
The Board was tasked with deciding on whether to stay with a 5-day week or join a number of surrounding districts in making the switch to a 4-day week.
The Board heard a motion from Marci Orr to approve the 4-day calendar with a second by Todd Yager.
The motion failed with Orr, Yager, and Keith Louder voting in favor while Kara Clovis, Nicole Jahn, Scott Nichols and Kelli Teel voted no.
A motion was then made to adopt the 5-day a week calendar as presented which passed unanimously.
In other business, the Board approved a self-evaluation instrument to hold themselves accountable to guidelines established by the recent Continual School Improvement Plan they adopted.
There will also be a new assistant principal for Mexico High School after the Board approved the creation of the position.
