Warrant Issued In Fatal December Fire In Mexico

A warrant has now been issued as the investigation into the fatal fire on West Breckenridge on December 23, 2022 continues.

According to Mexico Public Safety, the Audrain County Prosecuting Attorney has applied for and obtained a warrant for 43-year old Brandon S. Spears.

Spears is charged with first degree murder, two counts of first degree arson and armed criminal action as a result of the investigation into the fires that occurred in the early morning hours of December 23rd.

Spears was a resident of the apartment complex and the son of Ruth Stuart who died in the incident.

Mexico Public Safety was called to the Forest Village fire at 1:18 the morning of December 23rd and to the South Elmwood fire at 2:33.

Little Dixie Fire Protection District was called to assist with both incidents with the Missouri State Fire Marshals office assisting in the investigation.

Spears also has a warrant from the Missouri Board of Probation and Parole and his whereabouts are unknown.
