The Chiefs were without their main target, tight end Travis Kelce, who was sidelined with a hyperextended knee.
Patrick Mahomes went 21-39 passing with 226 yards, two scores and an interception.
Kansas City hits the road next week to play at Jacksonville at noon on Sunday, September 17.
The St. Louis Cardinals were unable to complete a series sweep of the Atlanta Braves losing 8-5.
