Mexico Lady Bulldogs Basketball Advances In Round One Of District Playoffs Against Wright City

The Mexico Lady Bulldogs edged out the Wright City Lady Wildcats 64-61 in round 1 of the Class 4 District 8 playoffs at the Fulton High School on Monday, February 26,2024.

The 6th seeded Lady Wildcats came out upset minded against the 3rd seed Lady Bulldogs.

Mexico’s Grace Hudson scored the first points of the game from behind the arc.

After that, Wright City went on a run and took a 19-5 lead.

The Lady Bulldogs came roaring back in the second quarter thanks to three-three pointers from Grace Hudson.

Mexico took a 31-26 lead into the half.

Momentum swung back to Wright City in the third as the Lady Wildcats outscored Mexico 22-14.

With 17 seconds left in the fourth quarter Claire Hudson hit a free-throw to give Mexico a 62-61 lead and put the Lady Bulldogs on top for good.

Claire went 6-8 from the free throw line for the game.

Jordyn Thurman then hit two more free throws to seal the deal for the Lady Bulldogs.

Grace Hudson led the Mexico’s offense with 15 points on five three pointers.

Claire Hudson recorded 14 points.

They were followed up by Jordyn Thurman with 9 points.

Makenzie Taylor with 8 points.

Kylie Burnett with 7 points.

And Karlee Sefrit with 6 points.

Mexico will play the Fulton Lady Hornets in the semi-finals on Wednesday, February 28th at 7:30pm.

This will be the fourth meeting this season between the Mexico and Fulton girls.
