Mexico Optimist Football Wins Second League Championship In Rematch With Hannibal

For a second year in a row the Mexico Optimist football team walked away with a North Central Football League Championship on Saturday, October 19, 2024.

In 2023, the Mexico 5th grade Optimist football team defeated Hannibal.

This year the group was a year older as sixth graders, however, had the same challenge ahead them.

A rematch against Hannibal.

In another similarity to the 2023 season, Mexico lost to Hannibal during the last week of the regular season. Mexico would fall to 4-1 after losing 28-24 to Hannibal.

This would set up a rematch between the 4-1 teams in the championship game.

Mexico would come out on top 29-6.

Connor Eldridge and A’Mirreon Lawson led the way with two touchdowns apiece.

Hunter Loyd had one touchdown.

Gavyn Miller had three catches and an interception.

The group went 23-2 over 4 years and claimed back-to-back championships.
