The following press release was sent from the Fulton Fire Department.

On December 23, 2024, the Fulton Fire Department responded to a residential structure fire in the 200 block of W. 2nd Street.

The Central Callaway Fire Protection District (CCFPD) provided auto-aid assistance.

A family of three resided in the single-story home.

Two family members were outside doing yard work when they noticed the fire.

They quickly alerted a female family member who was asleep inside the home.

Thanks to their prompt action, all family members, along with their dog, evacuated safely before emergency crews arrived.

When fire crews arrived, smoke was visible coming from the attic area.

An aggressive interior attack was initiated, and a primary search was conducted.

The fire was brought under control within approximately 20 minutes.

A subsequent fire cause and determination investigation concluded that the fire was accidental in nature.

The Fulton Fire Department reminds every one of the importance of working smoke alarms, which can save lives.

Residents are urged to check their smoke alarms monthly to ensure they are functioning properly.
