Mexico High Academic Team Back-To-Back WUHSAC Champs

The Mexico High Academic Team repeated as champions after competing at the Washington University High School Academic quiz bowl tournament on Saturday, Feb. 22, 2025.

Mexico went 11-0 on the day at the tournament which is considered one of the major events in the Missouri high school quiz bowl circuit.

Mexico picked up wins over Hannibal C, Lee’s Summit West B, De Smet Jesuit, Centralia, Rockhurst A in the morning preliminary rounds.

Camden Williams was the top scorer through preliminary rounds.

Andrew Peuster was #13.

In the playoff rounds, Mexico defeated Bayless A (655-55) Rockhurst A, Fort Zumwalt West A, Clayton and St. Joseph Central.

That set up a winner take all final against Class 5 rival New Heights Christian (Joplin).

Mexico fell behind early, trailing at one point by 190-30.

Mexico powered 6 times in the second half (Camden 3 times and Peuster 3 times) along with Lucy Gleeson’s first tossup of the day to take the championship game 410-250.

Mexico A team members consisted of Camden Williams, Andrew Peuster, Lucy Gleeson and Hunter Feger.

Mexico will be back in action midweek as they the North Central Missouri Conference Tournament on Wednesday, Feb. 26, at the Mexico High School.

Mexico will look to three-peat as NCMC champions.
