The Mexico High School girls soccer team defeated Kirksville 2-1 in two overtimes at the Mexico High School on Wednesday, Apr. 2, 2025.
Mexico scored in the first half off an Emily Moppin free kick.
Kirksville tied up the game about midway through the second half.
With five seconds left in the second overtime, Emily Moppin sent a ball back into the box, it rebounded off the goalie, and Brenda Matuz scored to secure the Lady Bulldogs victory.
Mexico head coach Sarah Olson says “It was a really tight game the whole time. Kirksville moved the ball really well so we had to work hard to get the ball from them. Emily Moppin’s free kick score in the first half was a beautiful shot from far out that sailed over the head of the goalie.”
Mexico won their second straight game and improved to 4-2 on the season.
