Mexico Public Safety says no injuries were reported after severe storms rolled through Mexico on Sunday, Apr. 20, 2025.
The National Weather Service issued a tornado warning for central Audrain County around 5:35 on Sunday night.
Radar showed a storm near Mexico, which had increased in strength and started rotating.
The Mexico outdoor warning sirens were activated along with other state and national warning systems.
Mexico Public Schools opened the storm shelter at Hawthorne Elementary and several people in that area moved to that location.
Mexico Public Safety reports that as the storm moved through, there was some heavy rain and strong wind gusts and a utility pole became unsecured in the 1600 block of Lakeview Road and was leaning towards private property.
According to the news release no residents lost power and Ameren responded to make temporary repairs until the pole could be replaced.
A large portion of a tree came down across the sidewalk and into the roadway of the 900 block of West Boulevard.
Crews from the Mexico Street Department responded and cleared the sidewalk and street.
