Jury trial set for Damarkus Williams

Yesterday, a suspect in a deadly 2023 shooting on Dove Drive in north Columbia returned to court, and saw his charges amended. Twenty-four-year-old Damarkus Williams now faces second-degree murder and first degree assault charges in the death of Deshon Houston.

Williams had originally been charged with first-degree murder.

Prosecutors say Houston was shot and killed in June 2023 by gunmen in two vehicles allegedly linked to Williams and another suspect, Ja’shaun Barney.

The vehicles did a drive-by at Houston’s house and peppered him with gunfire as he stood in his driveway.

His four-day jury trial is set to begin January 6.
