The Montgomery County Commission heard public comments Monday on a plan to build an Amazon Web Services data center in New Florence.
The proposed “Project Green” would cover about 1,000 acres near Hudson and Ellis Roads.
Residents split opinions some welcome new jobs, while others fear higher utility costs and environmental impacts.
Commissioners say they’re still reviewing permit applications and have held multiple public meetings to answer concerns.
The first phase of construction could include eight data buildings and create hundreds of full-time jobs.
Power would come from Ameren Missouri, with AWS saying on-site wells will supply water without affecting local drinking supplies.
