Burglary Suspect Caught After High-Speed Chase and Lockdown in Columbia

A high-speed chase through Columbia Wednesday ended with a major police search near the Veterans United campus.

Boone County deputies say it began after a morning burglary on East St. Charles Road, where a rifle was stolen.

Investigators identified the suspect as 25-year-old Devin Taylor.

Around noon, deputies spotted him near Buttonwood Drive but when they tried to stop his car, he took off.

The nine-minute chase ended when Taylor crashed, then ran into the woods near Veterans United with a rifle.

The area went into lockdown, including nearby schools.

Taylor was caught about 30 minutes later and taken to a hospital for evaluation.

Deputies say the stolen rifle was recovered.
