Marshall Man Pleads Guilty in Shooting of Deputies, Drug Charges

A Marshall man has pleaded guilty to federal charges in the shooting of two Pettis County deputies last May.

Prosecutors say 62-year-old James Joseph Elsea admitted to firing at deputies who were serving a no-knock search warrant at his home on Highway BB.

The officers were injured but survived.

Elsea also pleaded guilty to drug trafficking and gun charges after investigators found methamphetamine throughout the home.

He faces up to 45 years in federal prison.

Sentencing will be set after a presentence investigation
