Bug forces cancellation of school in Paris

No school in the Paris R-II School District today, as illness-related absences have hit the school hard.

According to a letter from district superintendent Dr. Matt Smith, by the end of the school day Thursday, approximately 25% of students and staff were not in attendance.

That led Smith to cancel classes today, in effect giving the students a four-day weekend, and an opportunity to get healthier.

Smith said the district custodial staff will be thoroughly disinfecting the school. Families are also asked to take precautions at home to help limit the spread of illness.
